The Caucasian State Biospheric Reserve

One of the protected corners of the Russian nature is the Caucasian Biospheric Reserve, which most part is located on the territory of Krasnodar land. The Reserve has been created in 1924 for the purpose of preservation of mountain woods of the Western Caucasus and the Alpine strip with rare animals occupying them and plants. The Caucasian Reserve has a great value for a science. Scientists here not only observe and look after animals, but also create all conditions for their cultivation. One of the major problems is restoration of the number of bisons. Today in territory of the Caucasian State Biospheric Reserve lives about 400 bisons. In the large-leaved woods it is possible to see a graceful (грациозного) deer. The Caucasian red deer is the most valuable protected animal. The males’ heads are topped by branchy horns. Horns of a deer are a force and health indicator. In reserve territory there live wild boars, the Caucasian bears. There is a raccoon dog, a lynx, a chamois.
